Members of the RegulatoryToolBox COST Action CA23152 were prominently represented at the Biofilm Alliance Conference 2025, held on 21st October 2025, at Conference Aston in Birmingham, UK. The event gathered leading experts from academia, industry and regulatory bodies to explore how science, standards and regulation can jointly drive innovation in biofilm management.
Two early-career researchers, Dr Dannielle Cox-Pridmore (University of East Anglia / Quadram Institute, UK) and Dr Wojciech Tabor (Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Poland), presented their research with support from the Action’s Young Researcher and Innovator Conference grant scheme.
Dannielle showcased her work on “The development of sustainable surface technologies to reduce biofilm formation,” highlighting innovative materials approaches that contribute to cleaner and safer built environments. Wojciech presented “Introduction and optimisation of a gravimetric biofilm quantification method yielding reproducible results in antimicrobial susceptibility testing,” addressing one of the Action’s key priorities – methodological consistency and reproducibility in biofilm assessment.
Their presentations captured the spirit of the RegulatoryToolBox Action – building a pan-European community of researchers and practitioners focused on developing harmonised, validated tools to support regulatory decision-making. The conference offered particiapns a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with industrial partners, metrology and standardisation professionals, and regulators, strengthening the interface between academic innovation and policy needs.
By sponsoring early career researchers and innovators to participate in high-level international meetings, the RegulatoryToolBox COST Action continues to invest in the next generation of experts shaping the future of biofilm regulation and innovation.
